Planning your visit? Here are answers to some of the most common questions about travelling with Slum Gods Tours and Travel.

Is the tour safe?

Yes. Your safety and comfort are extremely important to us.

Our tours are led by people who know the local area and communities well, and we follow familiar routes throughout the experience. Your guide will stay with you and provide advice where needed.

As with travel anywhere, we recommend keeping personal belongings secure and following your guide’s instructions throughout the tour.

Are the tours suitable for children?

Yes. Families and children are welcome on many of our tours.

We aim to make the experience friendly, educational and engaging for visitors of different ages. If you are travelling with very young children or have particular accessibility requirements, please contact us before booking so we can recommend the most suitable experience.

Where do we meet for the tour?

For Dharavi tours, our meeting point can be arranged around 90 Feet Road / 93 Feet Road or at a nearby railway station, depending on the tour and your travel arrangements.

We will provide clear meeting instructions when your booking is confirmed.

If you are unsure how to reach the meeting point, just ask us and we will be happy to help.

Can you pick us up from a station?

Yes, collection from an agreed nearby station or meeting point can be arranged for some tours.

Please let us know where you are travelling from when you book so we can confirm the easiest meeting location.

Can you help us find accommodation?

Yes.

If you are visiting Mumbai and need somewhere nearby to stay, we can help suggest accommodation to suit different budgets.

Whether you are looking for a simple low-cost room or somewhere more comfortable, we can help you identify convenient options close to the tour area or transport links.

Please contact us before your trip if you would like assistance.

What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable, lightweight clothing and suitable walking shoes.

Out of respect for the communities we visit, modest clothing is encouraged. Mumbai can also be hot and humid, so comfortable clothing and drinking water are recommended.

During the monsoon season, suitable footwear and rain protection may also be useful.

Can I take photographs?

Photography may be possible in some areas, but we ask visitors to be respectful.

Please do not photograph individuals, homes or workplaces without permission. Your guide will explain where photography is appropriate and when you should ask first.

Respect for local people always comes before getting a photograph.

How long do the tours last?

Tour duration depends on the experience you choose.

Full details will be provided on each individual tour page and when your booking is confirmed.

If you have limited time in Mumbai, let us know and we can advise which tour may suit your schedule.

Do I need to book in advance?

Advance booking is recommended, particularly if you are travelling during busy periods or have specific dates available.

Booking ahead also gives us time to confirm your meeting point and answer any questions before your visit.

Are the tours suitable for international visitors?

Absolutely.

We welcome visitors from India, the UK, the USA and around the world.

Our aim is to make each experience friendly, accessible and informative, particularly for visitors who may be experiencing Mumbai or Dharavi for the first time.

Are the tours physically demanding?

Most tours involve walking, including some narrow streets and busy areas.

If you have mobility concerns, health requirements or need a slower pace, please contact us before booking. We will always try to advise you honestly about what is suitable.

We recommend bringing:

  • comfortable walking shoes
  • drinking water

  • a small amount of cash if you would like to purchase something locally
